History

Fort Wellington was built in 1813 during the war of 1812 that lasted till 1815. The war of 1812 was declared by James Monroe 5th president of the United States. Fort Wellington was commissioned by the British government during the war of 1812 to protect the head of the gallop rapids in the Saint Lawrence river. Canadians were swept in to the war because of the number of times Americans tried to invaded Canada. The war was fought in upper Canada,lower Canada, Great Lakes and 

the Atlantic as well in the United States.
