The Townof Frank

The life before the slide   had many warnings from the first nations that the mountain moved and was going to fall. The towns people would not listen and said it was not true. But they were very wrong.
There were many families who ran there own business  there  were many hotels, restaurants and many entrepreneurial businesses.
                   Hillcrest Mines
Friday, June 19, 1914 an underground      pocket of methane gas was        ignited, which set off a large coal dust explosion. This is placed as 1 of      the 3 worst mining disasters in
Canadian history. This explosion          killed 189 men, left 130 women         widowed and around 400 kids
fatherless. After the mine closed in    1939 due to a period of economic
decline,  Hillcrest joined the Bellevue, Frank, Blairmore  minning industry.
                  The  Burmis tree
is probably one of the most loved    trees in the world. This tree in an   limber pine that has stood there for around 700 years. Unfortunately it died in the 1970s. Since then, the     little mining town of Burmis have   cherished this tree that's why they   named it the burmis tree. This tree               has been broken twice, the first         time is was blown down in 1998              but the locals stood it up again.        The second time somebody thought it would be funny to cute off a branch and then the towns people fixed it with glue and used a crutch to support it. To this day you can see it, so make sure to stop by Highway 3, Crowsnest pass and check it out.
