Food Chains Within Batoche
A Coyote eats a Rattle snake, which eats Rabbit, which eats Saskatoon berries, which uses the sun's energy.
A Bobcat eats an otter, which eats a duck, which eats some small fish, who eat some worms, which eats some decaying roots, which used the sun's energy.
Grey wolves eat a Mule deer, which eats the quack grass, which uses the sun's energy.
A Peregrine falcon eats a sharp tailed grouse, which eats chokecherries, which uses the sun's energy.
If the Chokecherries were sprayed with pesticides and the grouse ate them, the grouse would be contaminated with pesticides, so when the Peregrine Falcon ate it, it would be contaminated as well. If the Peregrine Falcon ate more than one contaminated grouse it would get more and more contaminated until it died. When this happens, it is called biomagnification.
